Policies and Standards of Practice

I provide Therapeutic Massage work by manipulation of soft tissues for the purpose of normalizing them. I use a variety of physical methods including applying fixed or movable pressure, holding, or causing movement to the body. I use primarily my hands, but depending on the clients need may also use my forearms or elbows.

The basic and hopefully overall effects of massage is to help the body heal itself and to increase the health and well-being of the individual.

In Massage, touch is the core ingredient incorporating both science and art. Practitioners learn specific techniques for massage and use their sense of touch to determine the right amount of pressure to apply to each person and locate areas of tension and other soft-tissue problems. Touch also conveys a sense of caring, an important component in the healing relationship. Massage has been incorporated into many health systems, and different massage techniques have been developed and integrated into various complementary therapies.

As a Massage Therapist, I am trained in many parts of anatomy and physiology; however, it is not in the scope of my practice to make any medical diagnosis. If I see or feel something during your treatment I will draw your attention to it and probably recommend that you have it checked by a medical professional. If there are physical findings that warrant further investigation medically or legally, it is my responsibility to report it.

Hours of operation are from 10 am to 7 pm Monday through Friday. Appointments outside these times may be considered on a circumstantial basis.

Draping is a part of bodywork. This simply means that the privacy and dignity of the client is always honored before, during and after the massage. I want my clients to feel comfortable, safe and secure with the draping provided. At no time during the massage will the genitals, perineum, or the anus be exposed. Consent of the client is required for work on any part of the body, regardless of whether the client is fully clothed, fully draped, or partly draped.

Even though emotions may arise Sexual behavior by the therapist toward the client or by the client toward the therapist is always unethical and inappropriate. It is always the responsibility of the therapist to ensure that sexual misconduct does not occur. This would include inappropriate comments about or to the client, including but not limited to the following:

  • Sexual comments about a client’s body or underclothing.
  • Sexualized or sexually demeaning comments to a client.
  • Criticism of the client’s sexual orientation
  • Discussion of potential sexual performance
  • Conversations about the sexual preferences or fantasies of the client or the therapist
  • Requests to date
  • Kissing of a sexual nature.
